To address sustainability in a comprehensive manner, one must understand that Poverty, Hunger and Health are often interrelated, and have an impact on the achievement of environmental sustainability. If we are truly aiming to keep the world under the 1.5-degree temperature rise as agreed, then we need to empower the people and elevate them from poverty, reduce the hunger rate and improve and provide equal health care for all humans on the planet. The pharmaceutical industry, the health care industry, the food distribution sector all have a major environmental impact on the planet and these critical sectors should be put on scrutiny on a global stage, if we are to accomplish the Sustainable Development Goals and various other sustainability target such as Net Zero.
This panel discussion aims to bring to the fore the interlink between poverty, hunger and health, its impact on sustainable development and bring about the necessary change required to address these issues. All sectors need to collaborate and work together to address these critical subject and bring together the relevant stakeholders to assemble the steps towards positive change. The discussion further aims to bring experts’ perspectives from diverse sectors and critically deduce the progress made so far, the challenges, the socioeconomic situations that needs to be addressed to bring about a sustainability progress.
