Dear Swiss Citizens in the UAE,

We are pleased to inform you that the candidacy for the post of ‘Swiss Abroad Representative in the UAE’ is now open. Interested members meeting the eligibility criteria are invited to submit the form by C.O.B on the 4th of June 2025. Please note that there is only one position to be filled. Elections will be held at the board meeting on the 18^th of June 2025, where candidates will be asked to join in virtually.

Eligibility Criteria:

Swiss citizens are eligible to serve as members representing the Swiss abroad if they meet all of the following conditions:
• Be at least 18 years of age;
• Hold Swiss nationality;
• Reside in the UAE and be registered with the Swiss Embassy in Abu Dhabi;
• Maintain ties with the Swiss community in the region they represent, that is, be a member of the Swiss Business Council UAE;
• Fluent level of one of the two official languages of the Swiss Abroad Council, namely German or French;
• Ideally, possess an active knowledge of the national language of their country of residence;
• Be willing to participate in the annual sessions of the Swiss Abroad Council in Switzerland—either in person or online (2 to 3 sessions per year);
• Commit to actively participating in the work of the Swiss Abroad Council and the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad, to represent their community actively, and to regularly report on the activities to their community both in person and online;
• Comply with the terms of reference for Swiss Abroad Council delegates;
• Respect Swiss law and international law, as well as the regulations of the Swiss Abroad Council and the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad, including the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad Code of Conduct;
• Have no conflicts of interest that would interfere with their role as a Swiss Abroad Council delegate, act in a politically neutral manner in their role, and conduct themselves in a way that does not harm the reputation of the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad.

Advocacy and Representation of Interests:

• Advocate for the interests of Swiss citizens abroad within relevant institutions, including political parties and parliament;
• Participate actively in the discussions of the Swiss Abroad Council to identify issues and contribute to the search for solutions;
• Be present and participate in all Swiss Abroad Council sessions—except in duly justified cases—including, where applicable, participation in committees and working groups;
• Establish and maintain relationships with other Swiss Abroad Council delegates and be accessible to them, as well as to members of the Committee and the SwissCommunity Secretariat;
• Be available to speak with media representatives in Switzerland;
• Contribute personal expertise and professional networks in support of advocating for the interests of Swiss citizens abroad.
